Lead generation for tradies: renting leads or building your own system
Buying leads from a marketplace gets you enquiries today, at a price set by whoever else is bidding for the same lead — and the moment you stop paying, they stop coming. Building your own system — a website that ranks, campaigns that target the right searches, tracking that shows what's working — means every dollar is building something you keep.
That's the shift True Blue is built around: not selling you shared leads, but building and running the actual marketing system that generates your own.
How our lead generation for tradies fits together
Website
The foundation everything else points to — built to convert, not just exist.
SEO
The long-term, compounding channel — slower to build, cheaper per lead once it's established.
Google Ads
The immediate channel — high-intent traffic, on from day one.
Meta Ads
The channel for trades that sell on photos and reputation, and for staying front-of-mind with people who didn't convert yet.
How we build a lead generation system for tradies
What lead generation means here, and what it does not
Lead generation for a trade business, done properly, is the system that turns searches and social attention into enquiries that come to you and only you: a website built to convert, search rankings and a Google Business Profile that put you in front of local demand, ad campaigns for the searches you don't rank for yet, and tracking that ties every call and form back to what produced it. That's the whole system, and it's what this service is.
What it isn't is buying leads from a marketplace. Sites that sell 'exclusive' or 'shared' leads typically send the same enquiry to several businesses, charge per lead regardless of quality, and own the customer relationship. Everything we build is yours — the site, the rankings, the ad accounts, the enquiries.
How the system fits together
- The website is the foundation: every channel points at pages built to convert on a phone.
- Local SEO and the Business Profile capture 'near me' demand at the lowest cost per lead over time.
- Google Ads covers high-intent searches immediately, weighted toward your best-paying job types.
- Meta Ads adds planned, visual work and retargets everyone who visited and didn't enquire.
- Tracking — GA4, call tracking, conversion tracking — measures all of it in one place.
- Reporting tells you, monthly, what came in, what it cost and what's next.
Why most tradies do not need all of it at once
The system above is the full picture, not a package you have to buy in one go. Most clients start with the free website and one channel — usually Google Ads or local SEO depending on the trade — and add the next once the first is paying for itself. Starting with everything spreads the budget thin and makes it harder to see what's working. We'd rather you start with one thing that works and build from there.
What a good lead system costs to run
The website is free to build and $79 a month. Google Ads or Meta Ads management is $235 a week each, plus ad spend paid to the platform from $30 a day. SEO is typically from $2,200 a month depending on your market. The marketing calculator on this site puts those together for your mix and gives you a monthly estimate — and if the numbers don't make sense for your job values, we'll tell you which parts to leave out.
What the first 30 days look like
Month one is about building the foundation and turning on the first channel: the website goes live (or your existing site is fixed to convert), tracking is installed and verified, the Google Business Profile is corrected, and the first campaign — usually Google Ads or local SEO depending on your trade — is built and launched. By the end of the month you'll have a working site, tracked enquiries arriving, and a report showing what they cost. The second channel is added when the first is paying for itself.
Questions to ask any lead generation provider
- Are the leads exclusively mine, or shared with other businesses?
- Do I own the website, the ad accounts and the Business Profile?
- How is each lead tracked back to its source?
- Is your fee separate from ad spend?
- Can I start with one service and add more, or is it all-or-nothing?
- What happens to everything if I leave?
Standards we work to. Google ads conversion tracking (how each enquiry is attributed); Meta lead ads (the Meta side of the system). Our own figures come from the accounts on the results page.
